Newcastle based art-rock trio Cat Ryan have once again delivered a tasteful dosage of melancholic shoegaze in their new offering ‘Blessed Through The TV’ . Speaking about its purpose, lead singer Mary-Anne describes the track as “a way of dealing with the theme of half-heartedness; the limbo between abandonment and commitment. Reeling from the support of their previous single ‘Mannerism’, they’ve quickly hit back with an enthralling combination of complex rhythms and intricate melodies, showing off their creative instrumentation once more.
Based on a true story about an angel figurine that had been blessed by the pope through the medium of television, the instrumentation sparks a similarly mystical emotional connection, exemplifying the bands use of alternative sources of inspiration during the writing process. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Wolf Alice and Japanese House, it would come as no surprise to hear that their live set is as captivating as the record itself; definitely one to watch coming out of the North East.
